Well, the second annual Pittsburgh Steel City Open is history!

First of all, thanks to the volunteers who made this possible: Akbar Ormes (and his truck), Tim and Joy Yee who handled the food concession, Mike Marks, Mark Weiner and Tomo Teraoka who entered the scores into Omnipong, Harold Elson and Randy Seemiller who helped Chip load and unload the truck, and all the folks who came early and stayed late to move all the tables, barriers, and so on.  Thanks to Paddle Palace for a bunch of free Nittaku balls.  Thanks to Bill Walk for being our umpire.  And thanks to Friendship Suites Hotel (Bobby Cox) and Touchtown for their $200 sponsorship contributions.

Turnout was terrific.  We sold out nearly all the events, some of them 3 weeks before the tournament!  In all 83 players played a total of 324 matches and around 1,200 individual games on 18 tables.  Over half the participants were from out of state, mostly Ohio.  If we hadn’t run out of space in the events, we probably could have had another 20 or 30 players.

All the results are available on Omnipong, see .

Winners were:

  • Open Singles: Samson David Dubina, Randy Seemiller, Roger Liu, Mike Walk
  • Under 2000: Bob Panahiazar, Jonathan Lamp
  • Under 1800: Jonathan Lamp, Sarah Jalli
